Kinja'd!!!

Costs more than a fair amount of cars.

I want it. Well, need it. Strongly want to need it. I throw monopoly money at the screen but it doesn't do anything.

Hasselblad H4D-40 with the...28mm lens if I'm remembering correctly.

When Hasselhoff does poorly he's Hasselbad. When you take an amazing photo like this you must be using a Hasselblad.

Remember, the most important part of any camera is the nut behind the viewfinder...

Very popular for car shots, you just can't capture the nuance of details without that massive sensor, or at least not as well.

Where did you find this wallpaper in 2000x1312? The one on this page isn't.

I see they have a 200 megapixel variant.

Wat.

But good grief some of these shots blow my mind.

Very true, but remember, if he took this with an iPhone no doubt the photo would be alright (y'know, best camera is the one with you and all), but not good.

Also want, but will do without, because, well plebe.

Now, I'll argue that lighting will play a larger role than the camera.

(Oh, and the staging, that plays a bigger role than both)

Questions...

Well, I know this is Hasseblad goodness. How did you light it, I assume from behind to get the water drops to look like that?

Other than that, not much. This is some pretty spectacular work, as always.

Though I do wonder, will you be 'daily driving' the Hasselblad? Is it 'compact' enough to take around with you and maybe even replace a FF DSLR for such things?

With that, I am scouring eBay for 500s that are reasonably priced.

Medium format here I come!

Medium format film cameras are relatively cheap. The local photo swap meets, and flea markets usually have a couple nice ones. Digital backs for them are not cheap though. You shoot Canon right? A used 5DmkII is where I would start. They are in the $1500 dollar for gently used ones now.

But again, the camera body is about the last thing I would upgrade. Staging > Lenses > Lights > Camera.

I can live without the digital backs.

Thats levels of madness I'll never have a need for.

The other issue with medium format film is that most of the photographers in Edmonton that use them end up sending the negatives to Portland for development. The cost of processing is a bit silly.

Kinja'd!!!1

That's madness. Dons Photo does them and in all honesty for the fun I'd like to have with it, what more would I need.

I just miss that...well, warmth(?) of film. If I can go medium for cheap enough, for the times i do use it, I wouldn't complain.

You should be able to do it for under $400. Body, film, and lens. But you can get into the 35mm stuff for even cheaper. I had a local pro give me his old Chinon CM-4 with a 135mm lens. It's fun to shoot film every now and then, and the dynamic range is better. I've got a roll of 400iso B&W that I need to shoot.

I still have my AE-1 lying around somewhere. Last I tried it was...well...sounding a little dead.

Or maybe its just been so long since I've used film that I've forgotten the sounds :p

The lighting is a combination of several shots with the light in different places. The main two which worked are where you can see the flashes though.

I take all my cameras to my shoots, my D800 and D700 are much more all round cameras but they can't match the quality of the Hasselblad despite their pixel count coming close. I will do a full back to back review once my new website is launched with its new blog :)
